RE: The tariff classification of Sodium t-butoxide, CAS 865-48-5 from India
Dear Mr. Chivini:
In your letter dated June 22, 2000 you requested a tariff classification ruling.
Sodium t-butoxide, CAS 865-48-5, also known as 2-Methyl-2-propanol, sodium salt, is an aromatic acyclic sodium salt of an alcohol. The compound is a chemical intermediate imported in bulk.
The applicable subheading for Sodium t-butoxide will be 2905.19.0050, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Acyclic saturated monohydric alcohols. The rate of duty will be 3.7 percent ad valorem.
This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
